TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK


It is located 200 miles from Nairobi This is the largest game reserve in the country covering an area of 21, 812 km2 and was established on 1 st April 1948 . It was branded ‘the theatre of the wild…..' on 29 th December 2005 .

The main attractions are bush lands, savannah grasslands, semi-arid acacia scrubland and woodlands, riverine forests. The world's longest lava flow, Yatta Plateau, is also found in Tsavo. It is 290 kilometers long. Other attractions are Lugard Falls on the Galana River , Mudanda rock (long rock outcrop that is about 1.6 Km long with a dam at the base where animals can be seen drinking), Aruba dam dug in 1952 across the Voi River . The dam is seasonal and during the wet season attracts migratory and resident birdlife and many animals. Tsavo is known for large herds of elephants and other wildlife namely giraffe, buffalo, lion, cheetah, rhino, waterbuck, leopard, dikdik, gazelles, zebra, ostrich, heron, bustard, secretary bird, jackal and many more.

TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK :
Tsavo West is 7,065 kilometers square. Unlike Tsavo East, it is dotted with mountainous scenic relief features. The park's habitat includes open savannah, woodlands, palm thicket, wild desert palm, rocky ridges and high above the Chyulu hills, mountain forest. A game viewing drive in Tsavo West is not complete without a visit to Mzima Springs, playground for hippos, crocodiles and numerous shoals of fish. Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary with more than twenty rhinos is worth a visit as well. Other scenic features are poachers' lookout, chaimu lava flow, Tsavo River, Lake Jipe, Shetani Lava flow (example of a recent volcano), roaring rocks, the five sisters (hills) and depending on the weather, view of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Wildlife: Masai Giraffe, lesser kudu, Black rhino, Oryx, Zebra, dikdik, lion, cheetah, wildebeest, leopard, baboon, hippo, crocodile and a variety of birdlife, plant species and insects.

Tsavo West was on 8 th November 2005 branded the Land of Lava , Springs, Man Eaters and much more… by the Kenya Wildlife Service.

AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK :
Amboseli was gazetted in 1974 and covers 392 km2 although the greater ecosystem covers 3,000 km2. It is one of the most popular parks right on the Kenya/Tanzania boarder, offering a unique spectacle – the backdrop is snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro .

Wildlife: Huge herds of elephant, jackal, lion, buffalo, bush baby, yellow baboons, monkeys, cheetah, zebra, wildebeests, giraffe, hyena. Over 80 different mammals can be see not to mention the over 400 species of birds. It was on 23 rd September 2005 branded - Kilimanjaro Royal Court ….”

Vegetation: open plains, yellow bark acacia, swamps and marshes, thorny bushes among others.

Cultural Attraction: contemporary Masai culture and indigenous pastoral lifestyle

MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

It is situated 270km South of Nairobi. Kenya 's Masai Mara, an extension of the Serengeti in Tanzania , is undoubtedly the world's greatest wildlife sanctuary.
It is famous for the wildebeest migration between late July and early October when hundreds of thousands of these antelopes trek across the plains in search of pasture from the Serengeti. T his phenomenon has rightly earned it the 7 th Wonder of the New World in November 2006 . It was gazetted in 1974. The total size is 1,510 km2 but the inner triangle (Mara triangle) covers an area of 500km2.

SAMBURU GAME RESERVE

Located 300 kms north of Nairobi . Samburu was gazetted n 1985 and covers an area of 165 km2. It can get dramatically hot here under the harsh equatorial sun, watered by the Uaso Nyiro River . A lioness adopted a baby Oryx 4 times and this turned out to be a major attraction at that time. The reserve contains rarely seen species of animals including reticulated giraffe, blue legged Somali ostrich and grevy Zebra. This is the land of the Samburu people, pastoralist colorful cousins of the Maasai.

Accommodation: Samburu Game Lodge, Samburu Intrepid, Samburu Serena

Activities: Bird watching, game viewing and Samburu dancers.

LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

It is located 3km south of Nakuru town and 155km from Nairobi . The size of the park is 188km2 and the lake is 44km2. It was first gazetted as a bird sanctuary in 1960. The birdlife is superb with over 450 species including flamingoes. About 300 species can be seen in one sighting . It was branded ‘Bird Watchers' paradise on 10 th August 2005

Vegetation: Acacia woodland, open grassland and the largest Euphorbia forest in Africa .

Wildlife: Waterbuck, leopard, Rhino, Hippo, Buffalo , Lions, Spotted Hyena, Dikdik, Zebra etc.

Accommodation: Sarova Lion Hill and Lake Nakuru Lodge. Accommodation is also readily available in the nearby Nakuru town.

MT. KENYA NATIONAL PARK .
Located 220km north of Nairobi . The mountain lies 193km north-east of Nairobi . The highest peak is Bastian, 5199 meters. Kenya 's flag was hoisted atop this mountain in 1963. UNESCO recognized it as a World Heritage Site in 1997.

Wildlife: Elephants, Leopards, Black Rhino, Buffalo , Lion, Sykes Monkey, Colobus Monkey, Bushbucks, and Mountain Buzzards. Best spotted below the park boundary in and around the forest.

Vegetation: Bamboo jungle and thick mountain forests dress the vast gentle slopes; the alpine zone with its vegetation, giving way to rocky peaks and ice.

Activities: Mountain Climbing, Nature walks, Bird watching, Hiking and Fishing.

Accommodation: No accommodation inside the park.
Mt. Kenya Safari Club, Mountain lodge, Naromoru River Lodge and Sweetwaters Tented Camp.

ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK
175 kilometers away from Nairobi . Aberdare is a range of grand scale mountains the highest being 13,120 feet. The range forms part of the Great Rift Valley running south to Laikipia plateau. Kenya Wildlife Service branded this park – ‘ Majestic Peaks , Moorlands, Falls…' on 3 rd March 2006

Vegetation: Eastern slopes covered with thick forests, open moorlands have giant heath

Wildlife: The shy Bongo is only found here. Elephants, Buffalo , Rhino, Impala, Leopard, and Duiker are also found here. There are 4 species of sunbirds and 20 other species of birds.

Scenery: Comprises several falls and mountain summits namely, Chania, Karuru, Gura and Kimathi falls. Summits are Ol Donyo Satima 3,994m high and Mt. Kinangop 3,903m high.

Accommodation: Tree tops, The Ark, Aberdare Country Club and Outspan. The Ark and Tree tops are designed to view animals after dark. The Ark has a higher concentration of predators and more comfortable .

Uniqueness: 1 st Rhino Sanctuary in Kenya . Treetops has historical connections with the British Royal family. Queen Elizabeth became queen on the death of her father George V1 in 1952 while on her visit here.

LAKE NAIVASHA
It is the highest and purest of the Rift Valley lakes – 1,800m altitude. It is 200km2 and 15 meters deep. Naivasha is 98 km from Nairobi and 5km from the town.
Wildlife: Hippo, Gazelle, and waterbuck can be seen around the lake. There are about 400 species of birds.

Accommodation: The Great Rift Valley Lodge & golf Resort Club. Naivasha Simba lodge & L. Naivasha Country Club.

Activities: Boat rides, fishing, day trip to Hell's gate, tour to Crescent Island to see warthog, zebra, waterbuck, impala.

SHIMBA HILLS NATIONAL RESERVE Located 56km from Mombasa town. It is 192km2 and was gazetted in 1974.
Attractions: Elephant, Buffalo , Leopard, Rothschild giraffe, Sable Antelope (only in Shimba). Birds: Golden oriole , Madagascar night heron, ostrich, water bottle.
Vegetation:Scenery: Hills, Valleys, 25 meter Sheldrick Falls
Accommodation: Shimba Hills Rainforest Lodge, Kenya Wildlife Service bandas.
Uniqueness: only park where Sable antelope can be seen.

MALINDI/WATAMU MARINE NATIONAL PARK AND RESERVE:
Located 120km North of Mombasa and 604 kilometers from Nairobi . Malindi Marine Park is 6km2 and Watamu is 10km2. In Oct, 27, 2006 Malindi Marine Park was branded – ‘ Africa 's oldest marine park, magic islands, zebra fish…..' and Watamu – ‘Haven for the green turtle, unique coral garden, Mida Creek…...'

Vegetation: Algae, microscopic marine plants (coral gardens)
Fauna: Crabs, corals, molluscs, fish species, seabirds etc.

KISITE MPUNGUTI MARINE PARK :
Lies 90 km South of Mombasa . It is 39 Km2, Kisite Marine Park 28 and Mpunguti Reserve 11Km2. It was branded – Home of the dolphin. Coconut crab…….' On 27 th April 2006

Activities: Snorkeling, Sailing, Scuba Diving, Wasini Island Tour, Viewing coral gardens and fish from glass bottomed boats and dolphin Sighting. Bird-watching.

MOMBASA NORTH AND SOUTH : Mombasa Island is Kenya 's second capital city. Lies in the coastal part of Kenya 485km from Nairobi . It is 28km2. The coast stretches from Shimoni from the south to Kiunga in the North. Mombasa Island is linked by six causeways – Likoni channel, Mtongwe, Nyali Bridge , Makupa and Kipevu.

LAMU ARCHIPPELAZO

Comprises the islands of Lamu, Pate, Manda, Kiwayu, and Manda Toto. Inhabitants are Swahili Moslems. It is a Heritage site and has ruins dating to the 14 th Century. It is the oldest town in Kenya .

Location: 100km from South Somalia border and 360km from Mombasa .
Attractions: Mangrove forest, palm trees, sandy beaches, sand dunes, mosques, etc.

Lamu Museum : opened in 1971 and is the largest building in Lamu. Main attractions here is Ivory, maritime culture, ceremonial horns,
Lamu Fort: Marks the southern corner as the traditional stone town.
Lamu is generally alive with traditional dances, songs and open air religious ceremonies e.g Maulidi.
Activities: Windsurfing, deep sea fishing, dhow rides, snorkeling, donkey rides etc.

Uniqueness: Narrow streets, thus no vehicles and only use donkeys. ‘No thieves.' Unique Arab architecture.

NGORONGORO CRATER

It is 8,300km2 and named after its crater believed to be the world's biggest caldera. The main attraction is wildlife and scenery.

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Accommodation: Lake Manyara Tree Hotel. This is the only lodge located within the park.

MOUNT KILIMNAJRO NATIONAL PARK

Reaching an altitude of 5,895 (19,340ft) Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa . There are other higher peaks in other continents but Kilimanjaro is the world's highest lone standing mountain. It rises five kms above the rising plains.
The Kilimanjaro National Park , gazetted in 1977, protects the entire Tanzanian part of the Mountain above 2,700m contour, an area of 756km square.

DAY 01
Meet and greet at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive straight to Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge arriving in time for lunch (150 kms). Later drive to Lake Manyara National Park , famous for its tree-climbing lions, for an afternoon game-drive. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 02
After an early breakfast drive to the world famous Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area arriving in time for lunch (240 kms). In the afternoon proceed on a game-drive in this magnificent wildlife heaven. Dinner and overnight at the Seronera Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 03
On this day you the opportunity to take an early morning balloon safari with bubbly bush breakfast (optional extra) or an early morning game-drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Rest of the morning at leisure. Later after lunch, enjoy an afternoon game-drive followed by dinner and overnight at Seronera Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 04,
After breakfast drive with picnic lunch boxes to the Ngorongoro Crater (200 kms). A brief stop is made at Ol Duvai Gorge and museum, the site of the remains or prehistoric man. Continue to Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge arriving in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 05
Enjoy a half-day crater tour either in the morning or in the afternoon with a visit to a local Masai village. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 06, FRIDAY:

Day 3
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park via the Serengeti Conservation Area arriving in time for lunch. Late afternoon game drive. Overnight at Serena Serengeti Lodge

Day 4
Full day in the park with two game drives. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Serena Serengeti Lodge.

Day 5
After breakfast drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Picnic lunch. Brief stop at Olduvai Gorge . Continue to Ngorongoro Serena for dinner and overnight.

Day 6
Half day at Ngorongoro Crater for game drives either in the morning or afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 7
After breakfast, return to Arusha for your onward arrangements.

TOUR CODE: TOKT03. KILIMANJARO CLIMBING SAFARI – MARANGU ROUTE .

DAY 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport/Dar es Salaam International Airport/ Nairobi International Airport . You will be met at the airport and transferred to Springlands Hotel/Any other booked Hotel – Moshi.

DAY 2: Marangu Gate (6000 ft) – Mandara Hut (9,000 ft)
Hiking time: 4 hours
Habitat: Montane forest

Leave Moshi town about 0900hrs and drive to about 45 minutes to Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro. Do the necessary paperwork at the park gate such as registrations. Begin hiking at about 1030hrs. Hike through rainforest from the park gate (6000 ft) to Mandara Hut (9000 ft), taking about 4 hours. Stop half way for lunch. Reach Mandara Huts at about 2 or 3 PM. Unpack, rest and have some tea or coffee. Dinner is served during early evening, about 7 PM . A side trip to Maundi Crater (about 15 minutes away) is a good way to see the surroundings as well as views of Kenya and Northern Tanzania . Bathrooms are available with running water.

DAY 3: Mandara Hut (9,000 ft) – Horombo Huts (12,000 ft)
Hiking time: 6 hours
Habitat: Heathland

Wake to breakfast (approx. 7:30am ) and pack for the next leg. Break camp at about
8:30am and hike to Horombo Huts (12,000 ft). This leg should take 5 to 6 hrs. You travel through lower heath land with small shrubs being the main vegetation. Stop half way for lunch. Views of Mawenzi are amazing. The summit of Kibo can be seen from Horombo Huts. Arrive Horombo Huts at about 3 PM. Rest, unpack and prepare for dinner. Bathrooms are available with running water.

DAY 4: Horombo Huts (12,000 ft) – Kibo Huts (15,500 ft)
Hiking time: 7 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Wake to breakfast as usual (if you wake before sunup you can get some great photos of the sunrise). Pack and begin the hike to Kibo Huts (15,500 ft). The first half of the day's hike traverses the upper heath land while the second half crosses the vast saddle that connects Mawenzi and Kibo. The saddle is an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. Be careful to notice signs of altitude sickness. The day's hike should take 6 to 7 hours, stopping half way for lunch. No running water at Kibo Huts.

DAY 5: SUMMIT DAY (19,340 ft)
Hiking time: 7 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Wake at around midnight to a light breakfast, and then prepare for the summit ascent. This part of the hike is carried out during the early morning before dawn so that the climbers reach Unhurt Peak at around sunrise. Leave at about 1:00am and reach Gilman's Point at about 7:00am . The climbers are met with views of the crater from Gilman's Point because it is on the Crater Rim. Another 2 hours of hiking brings the climber to Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft) at about 8:30 am . From there you will descend back to Kibo Huts, collect your things and cross the saddle again at Horombo Huts where you will spend the night. Eat dinner and get some well-deserved sleep.

DAY 6: Descending from Horombo to the Marangu Gate

Wake as usual, pack and descend to Mandara Huts. Take lunch there and continue on to the park gate where you will be met by your transport back to Moshi. You should reach the park gate around 2 or 3 PM .

DAY 7: Depart for the airport or other destinations in Tanzania or Kenya . Zanzibar is a good way to recuperate. Other trips around Moshi and Kilimanjaro region can be arranged at reasonable price.

Extra Day for Acclimatization:
Extra day will be at Horombo Hut you will have full day (second and third night will be at Horombo), clients will go up to Mawenzi base camp and come back to Horombo Hut. Clients will acclimatize, walking and get familiar to the weather and altitude on the mountain. Forth Day will continue trekking up Kibo Hut and midnight start to summit.


UGANDA MAIN NATIONAL

BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK:

Located Southt West of Uganda. Area 331 km2. Gazetted to protect the lowland Garilla.
Vegetation is mainly thiak forests. There is no accommodation. Travel to Kabale town or tamp around the park. Bwindi hastalmost half of the world’s mountain gorillas and is home to 90 mammal species including 11 primttes.

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK [Ruwenzori National Park]

Area: 1978km2.
UNESCO has Recently designated this park atmsosphere Reserve for Humanity. QENP is the most accessible and popular game reserve in Uganda. at boasts as one of one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game reserve in the world. Its landscape is characterized by savannah to the rainforest, from dense papyrus swamps and cater lakes to the vastness of Laåe Edward. Animals that may be såen are elephant, hippos, and giant forest hog, Uganda Kob, Lion and Chimpanzee. All in all, there are 100 mammal species and about 600 bird species.

Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge (inside the park) and Jacana Safari Lodge.

MURCHISON FALLS N. PARK (KABALEGA FALLS):

Area: 4,033km2. Main attraction the falls and wildlife.
Accommodation: Påraa Safari Lodge and Chobe Wildlife Lodge.

Day One:

Depart Kampala at 0630hrs and drive west with a stopover at the equator to take photos, through volcanic formations of the west Rift Valley towards Queen Elizabeth National Park . The descent reveals stunning panorama of L. George and Edward amidst game filled plains. In the evening proceed for a unique boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward . The cruise passes thorough possibly the highest concentration of hippos in Africa and many animals may be seen drinking at the water edge. Day Two:

Two game drives today. The park’s diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Game drives in the park with Ruwenzori as a backdrop provides excellent opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, and cape buffalo, elephants, waterbuck, Uganda Kob, topi and bush buck.

Day Three:

Early Morning departure to Kyambura Gorge, visitors can climb through tropical forest and catch a glimpse of variety of primates, including chimpanzee. Drive onwards to Kampala , with a stopover in Mbarara for lunch, arriving late evening.

Day One:

Depart your accommodation at 0700hrs. Drive South West across the equator and through savannah grassland seeing banana plantation and herds of Ankole cattle with their incredibly long horns. Descend into Kigezi Highlands, known as the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ with terraced farming and mountain scenery. Drive through to Bwindi. (10 hour drive)

Day Two:
